It was a good thing you brought Ethan for the test. My hubby has a cousin whose daughter has autism but they only detected at a very late stage. She is almost 7 now and she can hardly speak so they have to send her to a special school.

Joyce says: Yeah, we are glad that autism was ruled out :)

Joyce, does Ethan suck pacifier? When Alycia's speech was unclear, we brought her to a speech therapist. The first thing the ST asked was whether Alycia used a pacifier, which she did. So off I went to wean Alycia off the pacifier and within a week, her pronounciation improved.

Joyce says: Nope, I have never given Ethan the pacifier. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Wow! Great info, Thanks! So detail....

but Ethan sounds wonderful. I personally think there's nothing wrong with him, because my family had a ADHD kid and he was....hmm... a nightmare.

Joyce says: Hmm....mind telling me what the symptoms of the ADHD kid was?

dono y there is so much problem with kids these days. Is it due to the advancement of our technology that we are catching their problems earlier than before.

My neighbour just found out that their son had only 20% hearing on one of his ears at the age of 3. They did not suspect it as he can talk very well.

now pulak they are suspecting their boy might have dylexia (how to spell?) after seeing the specialist for hyperactive...sigh....

Joyce says: When there is technological advancement, we find out more lo. Plus, parents these days are more well informed.

good luck!! I also always hear that boys are slower than girls in their speech and I do see the slight difference between ashley and aidan. Anyhow, I do hope I wont have to worry when Aidan turns 2 :)

Joyce says: I have also read that the 2nd born sibling normally picks up faster than the firstborn, probably due to influence from older bro/sis.

I bet in no time he will be a chatty box then you will have a hard time keeping him quiet. I have 2 in the house who talk non stop. Worst is they want me to join in.

Joyce says: I'm still waiting for that to happen. :) Will definitely let you know when I am in the same boat.

My boy is oso vy slow in his speech dev. But as long as his hearing is ok n he can follow simple instructions, we will just wait patiently for him to talk. Looking at Ethan's dev, it looks like everything's normal n he'll talk when he wants to.

Joyce says: Okay. My goal now is to make sure he understands, rather than forcing him to talk.
